J.Pepito Marquez


J. PEPITO MARQUEZ became part of the comics industry as a writer and editor. He edited Teens Weekly KomiksPrecious Komiks and Shogun Qualikomiks that were published by Graphic Arts Service, Inc. Marquez is one among the young poet-writer during the late 1960s to the early 1970s. He finished AB English and Political Science at Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) where he also took MA-English.

Marquez began to write in “Ang Silahis” of Ramon Magsaysay High School and became editor of college newspaper “Quezonian” of MLQU. He also earned numerous awards for writing poems, stories and essays. Among those he won were Talaang Ginto sa Tula, Talaang Ginto sa Sanaysay, Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (Short Stories) and Catholic Mass Media Awards. He also became the writer of “The Philippine Baptist” and “Lumikha Tayo Magasin”. In the mid-80s, he became Chief of the Marketing Department of GASI and Affiliated Publications.

As a comics scriptwriter, Marquez wrote novels using his pseudonyms Xenia and Jane Madrigal.
