ANG MATON is an adventure komiks novel which tells the story of two men who both want to avenge the deaths of their fathers.

Elmer, a rich haciendero, and Gizmo, a typical provinciano, goes to Manila to murder Carno, a notorious killer, in revenge over the deaths of their fathers. The two become friends but do not tell each other about their missions. Elmer almost gets Carno if not for the intervention of Logan, a leader of a group of bandits. When Elmer finds Carno half-conscious and bloody, he decides not to kill him but instead takes him home and meets Carno’s daughter, Nilda. A relationship between Elmer and Nilda develops as well as with Gizmo and Nilda’s friend. The four go out on a double date which ends sourly when Elmer finds out that Gizmo and Nilda have feelings foreach other. Gizmo learns that Carno buried money and wants half of it. Because of this, Gizmo wants to spare Carno’s life while Elmer continues to loathe him and wants to kill him. Gizmo later realizes the error of his ways and consents to Nilda’s plea to return the money to its rightful owner. Elmer, Gizmo and Carno get into a fistfight which evolves into a knife duel, for possession of the money, which is hidden in the cemetery. The hiding place however has been looted by Logan’s gang. Carno, Gizmo and Elmer work together to defeat Logan’s group of bandits and recover the money. In the end, Elmer and Gizmo are reconciled.

Don Teofilo is a dignified swordsman who wishes for a son. When his wife gives birth to a baby girl named Leonida, he vows to raise her like a boy. He teaches her fencing and horseback riding, at which the little girl excels. Don Teofilo’s wife worries about her daughter and decides to send her to study in Madrid.

Years later, Leonida comes back from Madrid a beautiful, sophisticated lady. Meanwhile, Don Teofilo’s rival, Don Alfonso Soldevas, has become the mayor of their town. Leonida learns about his corrupt ways and decides to flirt with him to win his confidence and uncover his wicked ways. She discovers the location of the mayor’s ill-gotten wealth and steals it, disguised as La Sombra. She distributes the money to the poor and releases the prisoners who were sentenced by Soldevas.

La Sombra hides in the house of Don Teofilo. However, the mayor finds out and demands that Don Teofilo hand over La Sombra, which the latter refuses to do. When soldiers come to round up Don Teofilo and his family, La Sombra come to their rescue and defeat the mayor’s men. The inspector general arrives and orders the arrest of Don Alfonso, and Don Teofilo is appointed as the new mayor. Don Teofilo is elated to find out that the hero La Sombra is actually his daughter Leonida.
