ROBERTA is a tragic story told from the viewpoint of two siblings, Roberta and Boy. The poor children are victims of unfortunate circumstances: their kind mother Sinay falls victim to a deadly illness, and their father Inggo does nothing except drink, gamble, and beat Sinay and the two children. When Sinay finally dies of her illness, Inggo takes his children to his mistress Mary, a bar girl. Mary maltreats Roberta and Boy. One day she is found dead, and beside her is Roberta, holding a bloody knife. Roberta confesses to the crime. Apprehended by the police, Roberta goes into trial where the truth is revealed : that Roberta was forced by his father Inggo to confess to the crime—and that he himself is responsible for Mary’s death, after discovering that Mary is having an affair with another man.
